Original painting by Chloƫ Holt RCA FRSA. One of the youngest artists ever to be elected a member of the RCA. Winner of the 2012 Kyffin Williams Drawing Prize, Chloe also, in 2010 won the International Lorenzo il Magnifico prize by the Florence Biennale for works on paper.
"Kama is a word rich with ambiguityāit can mean kiln, oven, or stove in Japaneseābut beyond that, it carries a sense of transformative heat and elemental change. In this work, Iāve tried to embody the feeling of kama not just as a functional vessel, but as a space of alchemy, where energy bursts forth, uncontrollable, and life is quite literally burned into clay.
The painting is layered with texture and weightāash, earth, pigmentāevoking the moment where matter begins to shift, to fuse, to become something new. Colour is caught in flux: darkened, scorched, and glowing at once. Kama is about that liminal stateābetween destruction and creation, energy and stillnessāwhere the essence of something ancient is formed in fire."
